Ukrainian Pipeline Attack Halts Russian Oil Flow to Hungary

(MENAFN) A recent strike by Ukraine on a key oil conduit inside Russian territory has led to the suspension of Russian crude oil shipments to Hungary, according to Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, who issued a strong condemnation on Monday.

"Ukraine has once again attacked the oil pipeline leading to Hungary, cutting off supplies. This latest strike against our energy security is outrageous and unacceptable!"

Szijjarto announced via a social media statement. He noted that Russian engineers are currently attempting to fix the disruption, though there is no clear timeline for when oil deliveries might recommence.

Szijjarto also criticized what he described as a prolonged effort by both Brussels and Kyiv to pull Hungary into the ongoing conflict.

"For 3.5 years Brussels and Kyiv have tried to drag Hungary into the war in Ukraine. These repeated Ukrainian attacks on our energy supply serve that same purpose," he stated.

Reaffirming his country's stance, Szijjarto emphasized that Hungary remains uninvolved in the conflict.

He underlined, "Hungary has 'nothing to do with' the war in Ukraine and will 'stay out of it.'"

He also directed a pointed remark toward Ukrainian authorities: "Finally, a reminder to Ukrainian decision-makers: electricity from Hungary plays a vital role in powering your country."

Lately, Ukraine has intensified its strikes on Russian oil infrastructure and fuel-related targets, in what appears to be a strategy to disrupt Russia’s energy distribution network.

Meanwhile, Hungary has taken a divergent path from other European Union members. It was the sole EU nation that did not support Ukraine’s right to self-determination in a shared statement ahead of an upcoming Alaska summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

Furthermore, Budapest has pushed back against the European Commission's latest financial plan, criticizing it for allocating close to 20% of its funds to Ukraine and defense spending.

Hungary has dismissed the plan as a "war budget," indicating its unwillingness to participate in policies aligned with prolonged military engagement.
