Russia, China Denounce US-Israeli Strikes on Iran
In a joint statement, the two ministers said the attacks violate international law, breach the principles of the UN Charter, and destabilize the region. They emphasized that the legitimate security interests of all Gulf states must be respected and rejected any efforts to overthrow Iran’s government.
Lavrov and Wang expressed their readiness to coordinate efforts to stabilize the situation through the UN Security Council, the International Atomic Energy Agency, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, and other multilateral forums.
Separately, Lavrov spoke with UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed, where both sides agreed on the urgent need to stop hostilities and return to political and diplomatic solutions.
The statements follow the US-Israeli operation on Saturday, which killed several senior Iranian officials, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Iran responded with missile and drone strikes targeting US-linked facilities and regional states in the Gulf.
